On Friday night, as the style set made their way through a deconsecrated church into cool, cloistered halls with long pools of water for Alexander Wang’s final collection for Balenciaga, many were in a reflective mood.

Glenda Bailey, the editor of Harper’s Bazaar, added that his tenure at Balenciaga had created stunning moments for her magazine.
“It’s been wonderful to watch him evolve and see the way he contributes to fashion in such a distinctive way, both for his brand, Balenciaga and beyond,” she said. “And I say that as not just as an editor but from a personal point of view, as someone who bought the clothes Alex made for Balenciaga. They are treasured parts of my wardrobe.”

“I am consistently impressed by his work,” she said. “He has real longevity and has a signature voice that has really resonated with the world beyond fashion and that is very powerful. He is a talent for the long run, and it’s been a joy to watch the arc from his earliest collections.”
Perhaps Carine Roitfeld summed it up best.
“There is not much to say, other than bravo and good luck,” she said. “I look into these pools and feel like we can say a blessing for Alex. He is a shining light.”
